Structure
Legend+ with extended bridge and Campus Wall
When the University of New South Wales set out to revitalise its Village Green, it was looking for more than just a feature — it needed a centrepiece to energise campus life.
BOULDERING® delivered a climbing structure that is both visually striking and highly engaging. Now the focal point of this world-class sport and leisure environment, it invites students and staff to climb, exercise, socialise, and recharge — all within a vibrant, inclusive setting that prioritises wellbeing and sustainability.
UNSW wanted a standout piece that could engage a broad mix of users — from first-time climbers to experienced athletes.
Working with UNSW Student Life, the Outdoor Sport Club, and active student climbers, our team designed an installation that ensures inclusive access, broad engagement, and long-term value for campus life.
The wall provides ~70 sqm of climbing area with ~650 holds. At 8m long, nearly 4m wide, and 3m high, it can accommodate up to 23 climbers at once across ~20 different routes, from beginner to advanced.
The custom bridge and training wall allow students to build strength and refine skills, while carefully considered colours and finishes integrate seamlessly into the Village Green landscape.
IN THEIR WORDS
“Sport, active recreation, and physical activity has the ability to build communities, develop a strong sense of belonging and celebrate culture. The transformed Village Green embraces and connects with all these elements. The new facility takes a holistic approach to student well-being and mental health for all our students and reflects the changing needs of the student population.”
— Mark Wright, Head of Sport & Local Community, University of New South Wales
Like every BOULDERING® structure, the UNSW wall was designed and manufactured in Melbourne. Fabricated using precision CNC-cut materials, industrial-grade steel, and UV-stable components, it is engineered for durability, built with recyclable elements, and designed to minimise environmental impact — a true legacy piece for the campus.
